Adding music

NanoFlick gives you two separate ways to add music, and they suit different jobs:

• Shot music scores a single shot.
• Background music scores the whole flick.

You can use either, or both. They layer: if a shot has its own music and the flick also has background music, you'll hear both at once. So in most cases, reach for one or the other, shot music to underscore a single moment, background music for a bed under the whole video.

Background music (the whole flick)

Open Flick Settings from the bottom of the Shot List, then tap Background Music. You can add several songs along a timeline, so a flick can move from one track to the next.

1. Play or scrub to where you want a song to start, then pause.
2. Tap Add Song and pick from the royalty-free library, or More… for the full picker.
3. Tap the song's marker to open its controls.

Each song has:

• Volume, from 0 to 100%. It starts at a gentle 15% so music sits under dialogue, and the control tints orange as you pass 75%.
• Fade In and Fade Out, up to 5 seconds each.
• Loop, with a coverage choice: Until next song fills up to where the next song starts, or Until flick end keeps looping under any later songs, so you can layer a melody over a base track. New songs don't loop until you turn it on.
• Position, by dragging the marker or nudging it in 0.1-second steps.

To cross-fade between two songs, give the first a fade-out and the second a fade-in, then overlap them slightly.

Shot music (one shot)

On a shot's Edit screen, tap Music to open Shot Music. A shot takes one song, placed at the start of the shot. Alongside the song's volume, trim, and fades, shot music adds a Video Volume slider that sets how loud the shot's own recorded sound plays under the music. Tap Save to keep your changes, or Cancel to discard them.

Shot music doesn't loop: it's tied to its shot and plays once.

Choose a song

Both editors draw from the same two sources:

• The royalty-free library, free for everyone and cleared for use in your flicks.
• Your own music, imported from songs you own in your library (purchases or files you've added). Music streamed from Apple Music, Spotify, and similar services can't be added.
