Captions

Captions transcribe the speech in your flick and show it on screen. Most people watch with sound off, so captions help your flick land, and they make it accessible to everyone.

Generate captions

Tap Generate Captions to transcribe every shot. NanoFlick uses on-device speech recognition, so your audio never leaves your phone.

Edit the text

Tap a shot to expand it and edit the words. Each line break creates a separate block, which is one screen of caption text. Press Return to split captions into more blocks, or delete a break to join them.

Style them

The Settings button sets the default look for all captions, across four tabs:

• Styles: presets like Classic, Bold, and Dramatic, plus emotion styles like Funny, Hype, and Love that are built around how your flick feels.
• Text: font, size, color, and position.
• Background: shape (solid, rounded, gradient, bubble, thought bubble), color, and transparency.
• Effects: animations like karaoke, typewriter, and focus, plus Emoji Pop.

You can override the default for a single shot or a single block, and save your own combinations in the two Custom slots.

Speakers

Assign speakers to give different people their own color, position, and font. A block's speaker beats the shot's speaker. Save people to your Speaker Library to reuse them across flicks, which is handy for family or regular collaborators. Styles control the look while speakers control identity, so a speaker's color and position show through whatever style is active.

Voiceovers and captions

When a shot has a voiceover, NanoFlick transcribes the voiceover instead of the camera audio, so your captions match what viewers hear. Voiceover text appears in italics so you can tell it apart.

Language

The language selector controls which language NanoFlick listens for, and it defaults to your device language. If you change it after generating captions, an orange chip appears on each shot so you can re-generate in the new language.

Sharing and export

When you share, a caption toggle sits next to the aspect ratio buttons, so you can include or exclude captions for that share without changing your editor settings. When you export to Final Cut Pro with Pro, NanoFlick includes an SRT subtitle file you can import for fully editable, time-synced subtitles.
