Briefly describe the project and what class it's for. Keep it brief and include whether you’re excited and why.
Show the instruction sheet and the materials you’ll be using. Describe a bit more detail.
The next few shots are of your progress. If a shot turns out lousy, re-shoot it. You only need about five short shots.
Show the next step. Describe what you’re doing.
Show another step. Describe what’s most challenging about the overall project.
Discuss where you are now, how it’s going and what’s left to be done.
Show another step. Describe exactly what you’re doing and the choices you made.
Show the last step as you finish the project.
Show the finished product. Describe what’s unique and novel, or what was especially clever or challenging.
Thank the viewer for watching; say how you feel about the overall project.
Keep it short...
...then cut it even shorter. Usually under 90 seconds for a serious video; under 30 for a fun one.
Keep it moving
Make sure each shot has a point...and get to it fast! No fluff or filler.
Tell a story
Stories need structure. Make sure you've got a beginning, middle and end.
Know the audience
Family will watch a 2:00 video. Everyone else gets bored after 45 seconds.
Focus on people
Go easy on transitions, filters, etc. The best content is people relating.
Time passages
Use transitions like Dissolve or Dip-to-Black to indicate passage of time
Multiple angles
Using multiple short shots with different angles is better than one longer shot.
Start wide...
...then move closer on subsequent shot for the scene.
