Create a template

Build your own story template (a guided shot list) on the web, then use it in the app and reuse it anytime.

NanoFlick includes hundreds of story templates, and you can add your own. A template you make is a guided shot list you can reuse anytime and, if you're on a team, hand to everyone else: write the shots once, and anyone can follow them to get the same kind of video, the same way, with no experience required. Templates are created on the web, not in the app, because a good one takes some typing. Once you save it, it's available to you in the app right away.

  1. Sign in

    Go to the template library and sign in with the same account you use in the app. This ties the template to your account so you can use it immediately.

  2. Start a new template

    Tap the round + button. Give your template a clear, specific name. In the description, suggest where to shoot and what to capture.

  3. Pick an icon and a tag

    Choose an icon and a primary tag so people can find your template. A secondary tag and extra search terms are optional.

  4. Add your shots

    Add shots one at a time. Each has a name, a short description, a suggested length, a camera, and a transition. See Build your shot list for the details.

  5. Save

    Save when you're done. If you're not on a team, your template is reviewed before it appears in the public library, and it's available only to your account in the meantime. That's the normal flow, not a problem. If it doesn't show up in the app right away, close the app and reopen it.

A good template is specific. Name it clearly, write descriptions that guide the shot with examples and locations, and keep shots short. The clearer your guidance, the better the videos people make from it. Most flicks work best under about fifty seconds, with shots of a few seconds each.
