NanoFlick — Shot-by-Shot Video Guide
Use this guide to quickly create a video for TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, etc.
Let’s face facts: you’re not getting out of bed today. That’s ok, self care comes in all different forms. Keep a journal of the day for yourself and others.
Shoot each of the shots and keep the duration to the bare minimum. We've included instructions for each shot to create a short, fast-moving video your friends and followers will love. When you're finished shooting, just combine all the shots and you're done.

State your name, today’s date, and declare “…and this is my bed rotting journal.”
Explain why you’re taking the day in bed. Is it something specific that happened? Or how you’re feeling? Or that you just need to recharge?
Describe how you plan to spend the day, anything special you’re looking forward to, and how you hope you’ll feel tomorrow morning.
Every few hours, shoot a check-in shot and show what you’re doing, and describe how you’re feeling.
Your next check-in. Once again show what you’re doing, and describe how you’re feeling. If there’s another person or pet, show your interactions with them.
Your next check-in. Describe what you’re doing and how the day’s going so far. Show any meals, munchies, books, tv that you’re enjoying. Give a review or recommendation of them.
Your next check-in. Describe again what you’re doing. When was your last bedrot? Should you be doing more or fewer of these? Why?
You can add more check-ins by adding shots. For the final check-in, say what you’ve learned about yourself? Likes/Dislikes?
It’s time to sleep. Give a final summary of the day. Offer tips or suggestions for others for their next bed rot. Then say goodnight.
Keep it short...
...then cut it even shorter. Usually under 90 seconds for a serious video; under 30 for a fun one.
Keep it moving
Make sure each shot has a point...and get to it fast! No fluff or filler.
Tell a story
Stories need structure. Make sure you've got a beginning, middle and end.
Know the audience
Family will watch a 2:00 video. Everyone else gets bored after 45 seconds.
Focus on people
Go easy on transitions, filters, etc. The best content is people relating.
Time passages
Use transitions like Dissolve or Dip-to-Black to indicate passage of time
Multiple angles
Using multiple short shots with different angles is better than one longer shot.
Start wide...
...then move closer on subsequent shot for the scene.
