NanoFlick — Shot-by-Shot Video Guide
Use this guide to quickly create a video for TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, etc.
A daily log from UC Davis YSP. Describe what you're doing, learning and feeling. It's a great way to keep family & friends updated, and a nice journal for yourself. Add shots to import any videos taken during the day.
Shoot each of the shots and keep the duration to the bare minimum. We've included instructions for each shot to create a short, fast-moving video your friends and followers will love. When you're finished shooting, just combine all the shots and you're done.

Say hi and today's date (or Day #X of the YSP). Go over what happened today...like a news report. Don't bother with insights or feelings yet...that's in the next few shots.
What was the best thing that happened today? Why was it so positive? How'd it make you feel? Any new learnings or insights?
What was blah about today? How did it make you feel? Did it matter? Any learnings? If it's an ongoing issue, what are your options for handling it?
Share something you did or learned today - either academic or informal. Can be something you learned in the program or a perspective from someone with a different background.
What's the plan for tomorrow? What are you looking forward to? Anything you're apprehensive about?
Say how you're feeling and what your outlook is. Then sign off.
Keep it short...
...then cut it even shorter. Usually under 90 seconds for a serious video; under 30 for a fun one.
Keep it moving
Make sure each shot has a point...and get to it fast! No fluff or filler.
Tell a story
Stories need structure. Make sure you've got a beginning, middle and end.
Know the audience
Family will watch a 2:00 video. Everyone else gets bored after 45 seconds.
Focus on people
Go easy on transitions, filters, etc. The best content is people relating.
Time passages
Use transitions like Dissolve or Dip-to-Black to indicate passage of time
