Managing brand kit versions
Publish new versions of a brand kit, and understand what updates automatically versus what waits, including auto-apply.
As your branding evolves, you publish new versions of a brand kit, and each template and flick that uses the kit stays consistent with the version it was applied at. This article covers publishing a version and exactly how your changes reach existing work. To build a kit in the first place, see Create and manage brand kits.
Publish a version
Your edits to a kit stay a private draft until you publish. Publishing takes a numbered version snapshot and records what changed (add a note if you like). Flicks people have already made never change: each is pinned to the version it was made with, so publishing never disturbs work already in production, and each person pulls kit updates into their flicks from the app when they choose (see Applying a brand kit).
For templates, part of the kit flows in the moment you publish, and part waits until the template is updated to the new version:
What gets updated when you publish a new version
| Updated automatically | Updated when the template is updated to the new version |
|---|---|
| Logo and brand colors | Share tags |
| Watermark | Intro and outro descriptions and transitions |
| Endslate | Template icon |
| Intro and outro clips | |
| Background music | |
| Caption and title styles |
The left column is read live from the published kit, so it appears the moment you publish. The right column is copied onto each template, so an author's own edits are never overwritten; those fields refresh when the template is updated to the new version, either when the author pulls the update from the banner or automatically through auto-apply (below).
You can review past versions and what changed in each. Rolling back to an older version isn't available yet.
Auto-apply updates
By default, those by-value details wait for each author. Auto-apply moves the safe ones automatically the moment you publish, so a closely-managed brand stays current without your chasing every template.
- What it refreshes: the share tags and the intro/outro descriptions and transitions, and only on templates the author hasn't customized. It never overwrites a customization: a customized template keeps its edits and still shows the update banner, so the author stays in control. (The template icon always waits for the banner.)
- Set the org-wide default: in the dashboard under Settings → Governance → Access controls, in the Brand Kit Updates section. It's off by default, and only the owner can change it.
- Override it per kit: on the Brand Kits page, open a kit's menu and set Auto-apply updates to Use org default, On, or Off. Owners and admins can set this.
Turn it on when you want brand tweaks to reach templates with no extra steps; leave it off when you'd rather authors review each change themselves. Either way, an author's customizations are safe and finished flicks never change.
